The FrameWorks Picture Frame and Gallery hosted a group of seven artists from the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa which are based at the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation near Hayward, WI. These artists work in the Woodland Style of painting which was created from a combination of Ojibwe petroglyphs (drawings or carvings on rocks) and images from birch bark scrolls. The artist usually paints images with a heavy black outline and paints what is felt or perceived inside animals or people. What is painted inside represents a kind of spirit, a source of powers. These images are sometimes referred to as X-ray Vision.
